Angel is an Associate in the Taxation practice, with a strong academic background in European, international and tax law. He assists on Bulgarian and cross-border tax matters, including VAT, customs, corporate taxation and transfer pricing. Angel has also worked in Luxembourg as an Associate in the transfer pricing department of a large multinational company, where he was involved in projects for major global investment funds. This experience gave him exposure to private equity and alternative investment structures from a tax and transfer pricing perspective. His work includes supporting the preparation of tax analyses, customs and tax submissions, and advice on complex commercial arrangements from both domestic and EU law perspectives. Angel holds an LL.B. in European Law and an LL.M. in International and European Tax Law from Maastricht University and works in Bulgarian and English.
Relevant experience includes advising:
- Assisted an automotive-sector company in a customs classification dispute concerning imported components used in automobile braking systems, following their reclassification under a different TARIC code and the subsequent imposition of higher customs duties.
- Supported a leading international e-commerce and technology group in relation to Bulgarian VAT matters, including the application of the reverse charge mechanism and the assessment of relevant place-of-supply rules, including compliance implications from domestic and EU VAT perspective.
- Assisted a foreign corporate client with advice on the potential Bulgarian tax implications of transferring intellectual property under an intercompany agreement between related parties.
- Assisted a company active in the supply of medical products to Bulgarian hospitals with a detailed review of the VAT treatment applicable to its business model and supply chain.
